"Love Our Planet," an interactive afternoon of education and hands-on activities for all ages centered on zero-waste living, will be presented by the Chalice Unitarian Universalist Community Forum in Newbury Park on Saturday, Sept. 21, which is Coastal Cleanup Day.

Miles Lewis, the featured presenter, is an artist and environmental educator who as the “Zero Waste Wizard” shows how to live simply and less wastefully. The program will include help-our-environment activities, Promise to the Planet Passports, Earth-helpful prizes and a guide to the five Rs of sustainability.

“The health of our Earth is our health," Lewis says. "When we protect her we protect everybody. Waste is a central issue that we can all tackle with confidence and cost-savings.”

Soil educator Michael Wittman will teach about composting at one of the interactive centers. John Brooks, senior environmental analyst for the City of Thousand Oaks, will host a table with materials and information about local recycling. He has secured the donation of a composting igloo that will be raffled off.

"Love Our Planet" will begin with a noon lunch at Chalice Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 3327 Old Conejo Road in Newbury Park. There is no cost to attend, but registration is strongly requested by using a link at to provide a head count for lunch. Donations are welcome to help with expenses.
