      Bio

What was once a groundbreaking British dramatic film is now a hit musical that has played on Broadway and the West End. Billy Elliot the Musical won ten Tony Awards in 2009, including Best Musical, due in part to a hit score by Elton John. Currently Billy Elliot the Musical is experiencing successful runs on Broadway, the West End in London, Toronto, and now a national tour in the US. Those believing that they can simply watch the movie will miss out on elaborate song and dance numbers, an enhanced storyline, and emotional acting performances that only Billy Elliot the Musical can provide.

The musical first premiered in the West End in London in March of 2005 to critical and commercial acclaim. The original production was followed by successful productions in Sydney in 2007 and on Broadway in 2008, the latter of which is still experiencing a successful run. In 2010, the US national tour began to critical acclaim and has no plans of stopping anytime soon.

In 1984, Billy Elliot is a young boy who's mother died when he was young and is being raised by his father, older brother Tony, and grandma. His father and Tony are deeply entrenched in the UK miners' strike, often clashing physically and verbally with riot police. Instead of using the money his father gave him for boxing lessons, Billy instead uses the money to enroll in dance lessons. Although Billy shows talent as a ballet dancer and prepares for an audition at the Royal Ballet School, his father and brother find out and ridicule Billy into quitting. To find out the fate of Billy's passion for dancing, you'll simply have to see the musical!

The US tour of Billy Elliot the Musical is already underway and has scheduled performances into September of 2012. While that's plenty of time to buy tickets, each run only lasts about two weeks, so make sure you don't let these shows pass you by. Of course, if you do end up missing a tour performance, Billy Elliot the Musical has no plans of leaving Broadway anytime soon. Experience wonder through the eyes of a child, as well as award-winning entertainment, at any performance of Billy Elliot the Musical.
